CUETS Helps Set Record Day of Caring
June 4, 2003

Regina -- The United Way kicked off its 7th annual
Day of Caring in fine style this morning, with a rousing
outdoor pep rally and news that the event had just set
a record for corporate involvement. A steady drizzle
didn't dampen the spirits of the participants, as United
Way CEO Vic Huard announced that 500 enthusiastic employees
from Regina's corporate sector were teaming up with
more than 50 non-profit agencies this year to get various
projects completed around the city.
For the fifth year in a row, CUETS was well-represented
at the event, this time teaming up with the Canadian
Mental Health Association to host a delicious barbeque
for approximately 100 CMHA members. Aside from the great
food, CUETS Campaign Chair Vanora Isaac made the day
for everyone present by donating a deluxe gas barbeque
on behalf of CUETS, replacing a charcoal unit that clearly
had its glory days in the '70s.
Suspiciously close to lunch, Huard took a break from
his tour of Regina projects to help out and thank everyone
at CUETS for their ongoing support. "From Stan's
participation on our Board and right through your organization,
CUETS employees do so much for us every year, and our
member agencies really appreciate it."
Mental Health Worker Dwayne Johnson coordinated the
barbeque and helped the CUETS team at the grill, flipping
burgers and explaining how important it is for Regina's
non-profit agencies to have the financial and moral
support of companies like CUETS. "In Regina, the
CMHA provides support services for 250 persons with
psychiatric and emotional disorders, and addresses the
stigma surrounding mental illness in our community.
Just by being here, you're showing these people that
they are valued and accepted in the community. Plus,
we really, really needed a new barbeque," he quipped.
After the barbeque, Johnson toured the CUETS team through
the facility, noting the various programs and services
that are made possible by City of Regina, Social Services
and stalwart United Way supporters such as CUETS.
